Communion

“For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

(1 Cor 11: 23-26)

First Communion is when children receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist for the first time. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

Children

First Communion requires two consecutive school years of Religious Education classes for formal sacramental preparation. First grade is the earliest a student may begin this process. The student will also be required to complete their First Reconciliation on a designated date.

Parents

Parents of Baptized children preparing to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are required to attend weekly Sunday Mass. They are also required to attend the following: two mandatory parent meetings (for parents only), First Reconciliation, the Enrollment Ceremony, and the parent/student First Communion Retreat which will take place during their second year of preparation for First Communion.
