Baptism

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

Galatians 3:26-27

Through Baptism the Church welcomes God’s children into the Catholic Community, accompanying and guiding them along the Way of Jesus Christ.

Children

The Baptism of infants, with parents and godparents acting on their behalf, has been a well-established ancient tradition in the Catholic Church.

For purposes of Baptism the Catholic Church defines Infants as children 6 years of age and younger, who receive the same graces from the sacrament as adults who receive Baptism. Unlike an adult, nothing is required from the infant in order to receive the Sacrament. Instead, it is the Parents and godparents who

are the ones who undertake to fulfill the requirements.

Children 7 years and older prepare for the sacrament of Baptism by attending Faith Formation classes.

In order for parents to Baptize their child at St. Elizabeth of Hungary:

Children under 6 years old.

Parents and God parents must attend the baptismal preparation class and bring the required documents.

  1. Bring Birth Certificate
  2. Notarized parent consent form in the event of
    • (a) divorced parents
    • (b) a non–custodial parent or
    • (c) non-Catholic parent — a notarized letter of consent to baptize the child is required from these parents.

The Church requires that parents and sponsors attend a Baptismal Preparation class, so that they can come to know their faith better.
